What is my pupillary distance (PD)?

Your pupillary distance (PD) is the measurement of the distance between the centers of your pupils.

How do I measure my pupillary distance (PD)?

There are two main ways to determine your pupillary distance:

Measured by an Optician:

Our professional optician can measure your pupillary distance using specialized equipment. They will use a pupillometer to obtain an accurate measurement.

Measuring It Yourself (DIY):

If you don't have access to a professional measurement, you can measure your PD at home with the help of a friend or a virtual tool.

Method 1 - Millimeter Ruler

  1. Find a millimeter rulerfor measurements and a mirror or a friend.
  2. If using a mirror, try to look into the distance as you measure. If a friend is taking your measurements, try to look past them into the distance(look at far view) to avoid the result being too narrow.
  3. Hold the ruler against the bridge of your nose and line up the middle of your left pupil with the 0 line of the ruler. You can now measure the distance between your pupils!
  4. Measure across to themiddle of your right pupil, still looking into the distance. Your PD should be between 46 and 74.
  5. Repeat these steps 2 to 3 timesto get the most accurate result!

Make sure you have a ruler that is in millimeters!  Divide the number you get in half and then tell us the result in order or to our email:hello@mujosh-canada.com

Method 2 - Credit Card / Debit Card

You can also use a credit card (or bank card) to measure your PD.  You will also need your cellphone to take a selfie.  Please note, this method takes extra time as we have to calculate your PD for you!

  1. Stand in front of a mirror, close enough that you can take a selfie in the mirror.
  2. Place your credit card (or any bank card or card with a magnetic strip) under your nose on the lips with the strip at the top and facingthe mirror.  Please try and center it as much as possible.
  3. Look at far view, not on a focus point. Take a selfie.  Just try and keep a neutral expression.
  4. Send us the photo and we’ll do all the hard work for you through our email:hello@mujosh-canada.com

Helpful Tips to Keep in Mind

> PD measurements are always more accurate when taken by a Licensed Optician or other trained professional.

> Take your glasses off when measuring, no matter which method you use.

> Whilst the distance between your pupils is one length, you'll have to halve it to work out the PD for each eye, e.g. if your PD is 60mm, your left and right eyes will be 30mm each.

> If you can't halve your PD to a round number, no problem - split them to the closest 0.5mm, e.g. if your PD is 60.5mm, fill in: right = 30mm, left = 30.5mm. We see this quite a bit so, don't worry, we know how to deal with it.

> PD usually falls between 59mm and 70mm. If yours falls outside this, or you have a prescription over +/-6.00 sphere power, get in touch with us and we'll give you a helping hand.

Product Care & Warranty

How do I take care of my new glasses?

Taking proper care of your new glasses is essential to ensure they remain in good condition, provide clear vision, and last for an extended period. Here are some tips on how to care for your glasses:

  1. Handle with Clean Hands:
    • Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your glasses. This helps prevent the transfer of dirt, oils, and other contaminants to the lenses.
  2. Use Both Hands:
    • When putting on or removing your glasses, use both hands to hold the frames. This helps maintain proper alignment and reduces the risk of bending or misaligning the temples (arms).
  3. Clean Regularly:
    • Clean your glasses daily or as needed to remove smudges, fingerprints, and dirt. Use a microfiber cleaning cloth specifically designed for eyeglasses. Avoid using tissues, paper towels, or clothing, as they can scratch the lenses.
  4. Use Lens Cleaning Solution:
    • For stubborn smudges or when the lenses are greasy, use a lens cleaning solution or a mixture of water and a small drop of mild dish soap. Gently wipe the lenses with a clean, soft cloth, and then rinse with lukewarm water.
  5. Avoid Harsh Chemicals:
    • Do not use harsh chemicals, alcohol-based cleaners, or ammonia-based solutions on your glasses, as they can damage lens coatings and frame finishes.
  6. Store Properly:
    • When you're not wearing your glasses, store them in a protective case. A hard-shell case offers the best protection against scratches and damage. Avoid placing your glasses face-down, as this can cause the lenses to get scratched.
  7. Handle with Care:
    • Be gentle when taking off or putting on your glasses. Avoid bending the frames or twisting the temples. Always use two hands and open the temples fully to minimize stress on the hinges.
  8. Regular Adjustments:
    • Visit your optometrist or an optical professional periodically for adjustments. They can ensure that your glasses fit properly and comfortably. Loose or misaligned frames can lead to discomfort and decreased visual clarity.
  9. Avoid Extreme Temperatures:
    • Avoid exposing your glasses to extreme temperatures, such as leaving them in a hot car or exposing them to extreme cold. Extreme heat can warp frames and coatings, while extreme cold can make the lenses more brittle.
  10. Protect from Sunlight:
    • When not wearing your glasses, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause frames to fade or become brittle.
  11. Regular Eye Exams:
    • Keep up with your regular eye exams. Your prescription may change over time, and your optometrist can ensure that your glasses provide the correct vision correction.

By following these care tips and maintaining a regular cleaning and maintenance routine, you can keep your new glasses in excellent condition and ensure they continue to provide you with clear and comfortable vision.

What’s the best way to clean my lenses?

To clean your lenses, simply rinse them with a mild dish soap and lukewarm water, and dry them with a soft cloth. For day-to-day cleaning of light smudges, a few swipes of the pouch included in your case should do the trick. Please be careful to avoid using hot water on your lenses (especially if they are high-index lenses), as they can develop bubbles or cracks when exposed to high heat.
